Observation

Whenever someone starts yapping about "facts" and "biology," or how science has "proved" something, 97% of the time

  • they don't know anything about how science works
  • they have utterly no interest in what a fact is
  • they slept through high school biology
  • they're about to spew some bigoted nonsense

CHANGE MY MIND.

That's my favorite comment to make over on Twitter when someone starts talking this crap.

I was talking about hypotheses and experiments to my 11 year old today! He said the word "prove" and I cringed and explained proof by counterexample, and then we used bird nesting habits as a case in why "always" is so hard to demonstrate.

(The citation is all of Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Thomas Kuhn, and all of my discrete mathematics/ formal logic college math course!)
