As long-time readers know, my kid is genderqueer. (They're also an amazing artist*, and if you're not reading their comic you should start now.)
So I'm more than a little bothered when I see people I otherwise respect on FB sharing a picture like this one
And then making comments which they think are the height of humor. For instance, "Pee on your parents, since they did such a bad job of raising you."
Or "Is this a boy or a girl or a demon?"
Or "Maybe your closet identifies as a bathroom, give it a try."
All of these people claimed to be Christian, by the way.
If you want to know why LGBTQ kids and young adults have such a high rate of anxiety, depression, and self-harm, look no further than the smug ignorance of far too many conservative "Christian" households.
