Here We Are, Thankful America

All over the internet, people are posting "Why I'm Thankful" posts, though some are also posting, "Holy Hell 2016!" posts.

I'm leaning more toward the latter, frankly, what with our country being occupied by alt.right Nazis and White Supremacist plutocrats, but I fight to maintain a certain zen. Or at least to hang onto non-panic by my fingernails.

Today, Uncle Charger is coming for dinner. Among other things 2016 did, it killed Charger's mother, Joan, leaving Charger an orphan, though he does still have sisters he is very close to. They live in New York and Italy, however.

What are we thankful for? Well, we're employed, and at jobs we like. That's more than most people can say in this benighted country. My job, at least, pays a living wage. (Dr. Skull's job, substitute teaching, pays a laughable wage -- $70/day, no benefits.)

We also have a wonderful child, who works hard at her art, and is talented, thoughtful, careful, empathetic, and everything I would have wished for. Did I tell you she won second place in an art contest last week? She did. Also she got accepted into UA.

We also have great friends. Almost none of them actually live where we live, but that's modern America.

Our writing group -- that's a big thing to be thankful for.

I've got an excellent husband. That's a huge thing to be thankful for.

As for everything that is terrible and frightening in the world -- I'm just going to leave all that for another post.

Congrats to the Artist! So glad to hear that about UA!

I'm thankful to have your blog to help keep me sane, and to have more of Fragile to look forward to!

Aw, thanks, Bardiac!

I did forget blog friends! Blog friends are a big thing to be thankful for in this post-apocalyptic world!
