My Yard is Full of Fireflies

I dislike summer intensely, as you all know, but I must admit I love this particular season, when -- thanks to the green space behind my house -- my yard is filled with fireflies.

They're so pretty. Also, it's fun to watch the neighbor's cat trying to catch them.

Shamus just ignores them.

I haven't seen a firefly (or lightening bug) in literal decades. :(

I think we have so many here for two reasons: (1) the city does not spray for mosquitoes, which (as it happens) does not kill mosquitos but does kill other insects life and (2) the city deliberately leaves green space along neighborhoods and the bike trails and so on, which allows wildflowers, deer, rabbits, and insects to thrive. It's really nice living in a semi-socialist utopia!
