AI Being Very Helpful

So on my Gmail account, which I use to communicate to editors I write book reviews for, AI has started helpfully attaching summaries to the threads, explaining what the emails have covered.

For all kinds of reasons I do not like this.

I'm part of a private e-mail group, sort of like What's App. AI is now summarizing our conversations! And not very well. I hate it.

I went into settings and unchecked 'Turn on smart features…' Then it made me check a box about how it's going to reload Gmail, which took a minute. (That box made me sit around for 3 days because I didn't know what it meant--it didn't shut down my whole computer or even my whole browser, though.) This worked.

(And then suddenly it started giving me Facebook notifications. But it's also letting me click "not useful" on most of them. I also suddenly had a lot of spam, but it's probably just several Debbie Millers forgetting their real addresses and signing up for a million things during the cold weather.)

Oops, for that comment on how I canceled that feature, I forgot to say who I am. (Summary in case this comment gets published automatically: go into settings and uncheck the 'Turn on smart features...' box.)

I'll give that a try!
