I wouldn't say America hasn't learned from her mistakes but it is those conservatives, who continue to make the same mistakes over and over, that have not learned. War is wrong, children need to be taught to protect themselves, intelligence shouldn't be determined by what is between a person's legs but between their ears, and science is true and myth is an attempt to explain the unexplainable. So far the right and far right have missed the mark.
