Now here's my kinda guy!
Told he had to lower the flag to half-mast to honor Jesse Helms? He refused.
Do it, or get out, says his boss.
He got out.
"Eason, a 29-year veteran of the state Department of Agriculture, instructed his staff at a small Raleigh lab not to fly the U.S. or North Carolina flags at half-staff Monday, defying a directive sent to all state agencies by Gov. Mike Easley.
When a superior ordered the lab to follow the directive, Eason decided to retire rather than pay tribute to Helms. After several hours' delay, one of Eason's employees hung the flags at half-staff."

Yeah, thats what I'm talkin' bout. woot.
I just now heard the NPR with him. I must admire the intestinal fortitude of this fellow.
Totally admire him but think putting his livlihood on the line made him a bit irresponsible. Because now he is unemployed or retired and at 51 he probably either still has kids at home or kids in college and a wife who begged him not to retire so she, perhaps, knows a little about their financial obligations. I wonder what he'll do?
Listened to his story last night on NPR and thought he was too awesome for words. He seems intelligent, articulate and I don't think he's decision to leave was entirely rash. I've got a feeling bigger and better things are coming his way on the job front.
