Hungry Monkey also talks about 3 as the age in which kids start being able to categorize things but not separate things from categories. A common category is that of "green food". Green plants are often bitter and sometimes poisonous, and a three year old (who was perfectly happy with avocado and spinach as a 2 year old) might temporarily refuse any green foods until ze figures out the difference between them.
