On Trent Frank's lunatic longing for the good old days.
Coates:
...when I read this, as when I read many conservative politicians, speak on African-Americans, I just feel sorry for them. Before you explain to someone that a "policy" built on selling children, government-sanctioned torture, and forced labor is worse than any policy in place to day, you should come to terms with the fact that your breaths are limited, and your days numbered. You have to budget your outrage.

What is wrong with politicians?! There are some topics that simply should not be discussed because nothing good can come of your statements. Don't EVER compare anything to slavery. It doesn't matter if the overall point is to say that slavery is bad.
Also, Harry Reid needs to stop talking because there is nothing to be gained by stating that high unemployment causes more men to beat their wives. Come on! He shouldn't say anything after that ridiculous "Negro dialect" comment.
I don't particularly hold a brief for Reid, but as far as I can tell, both these controversial remarks, however ill-expressed, were actually correct. (Yes, one of Obama's strengths is that he can code-switch. And the unemployment gaffe is not wrong either.)
