Astrological Cold Spot

mr. delagar and I are in what we call, in our personal idiolect, an astrological cold spot -- one of those long stretches where one bad thing after the next keeps happening.  Eventually it begins to get almost funny, in a very grim sort of way.

First, the job we were expecting/hoping would come through for him at my university was cut, so, well, so much for attaining middle class this year; then he broke a tooth; then one car broke down; then the other did (six hundred and some dollars for the tooth, just our share after insurance; almost nine hundred to repair one car; we still don't know for the other car, we'll find that out on Friday); then his dissertation director forgot to send his files to the committee, so his defense has been delayed; then the kid's BFF has quit her school...

Those are just the big hits.  Lots of little hits mixed in.  Dishwashers breaking down, the kid needing a hundred dollar check for school here, a fifty dollar check there, me needing new glasses which insurance does not cover at all in the middle of this...

mr. delagar did get a partial gig at the school, which is bringing in some money, though no benefits, and will cover us for this semester.  That's helping some.  And his doctor gave him some Xanax.  And there's always Black Strap Rum.

But man.  Is it time for a change in our luck.

You know that blood donating thing? Well, guess what? I get up this morning and think I am feeling like I have been hit by a big mack and not the burger so I go to the ER and they are out of flu test thingys, so they draw blood and send me to my doctor and while I'm there, and after he tests me, I get a call from the ER nurse to rush back over, I am dehydrated and about to drop down dead. Yeah. Totally messed up luck all the way around. So, a not so skilled nurse, stuck me five times, finally got a vein, and they filled me full speed ahead with some normal saline shopped full of potassium and glucose too, I think. Anyway, I got a thousand CCS and was shocked at how good I felt afterwards. not the flu, but the fluids. LOL

Tough times. That really sucks.

My husband lost his job because a health insurance company told his boss to get rid of him and so that's what happened. My job has been jacking me around for months with threatened layoffs that are always going to happen "next week." Both of us on unemployment and COBRA is not sustainable, but I hate my employer so much now that I'd be glad for them to give me my freedom from their stupid cubicle and the idiot coworker across the aisle.

This depression is not good. But at least none of us is alone in it. We're in good company. Cold comfort perhaps, but you know what? We'll all get through it. Of course we will. -L

Yeah, it's some comfort, I guess, that everyone is as broke as we are now!
