It was murderously hot yesterday, with air like soup. Just taking the trash to the street left me covered with sweat.
Then this morning, apparently around dawn, a massive storm blew in, flooding the city and knocking down trees and powerlines. Wind gusts of nearly 60 mph.
I slept through all of that (yes! I finally slept!) but my yard is filled with torn down branches and leaves, and the yard shows signs of a mini-flood pouring through -- gullies cut in the lawn, piles of dead leaves and trash caught around trees, that kind of thing. No major damage, though, and we did not lose power here. I have air conditioning, coffee, and the internet, the three necessities of life.
More rain on the way, weather guys say.
This is what's coming tonight! |

No rain for us. Temperatures still in triple digits.
At the DMV today, the driving tester forced my husband to stay outside for over an hour while DC1 waited in the air conditioned car and eventually took a driving test (which zie then failed for "not looking around enough" which we're not sure what to do with). DC1 is a much better driver than either DH or I were when we got our licenses and we suspect this woman is just a sadist. Mainly because DH had to stand outside in the heat instead of being allowed in the air conditioned building during the test or even the car while DC1 waited.
Jesus, that does seem sadistic!
My kid's fiance took his driver's test a year ago, and they basically just made him drive around for a couple of minutes and then passed him.
When it rains here, it makes all the difference. I hope it does for you, too.
That DMV person sounds horrid!
It's cooled off a little, which is wonderful -- back up into 100s next week, ugh.
