The Decline & Fall

Teaching Didactic Children's Poetry in Vic Lit (Belloc, mostly), I discovered that my students had never heard the charming ditty, "Mabel, Mabel, strong and able, get your elbows off the table, this is not a horse's stable!"

Well, really.

What is the world coming to?

No wonder these kids today have no fucking manners.

Once again, we've failed as parents. Not about the elbows on the table_heck, I do that all the time--but about common cultural understanding. :)

I have to admit that, while I know not to put my elbows on the table, I have never heard that little diddy. :/ I have been neglected.
