Hmmm

Kid wants to know why a teeshirt is called a teeshirt.

The OED, my usual source for such questions, is, oddly, no help at all.

Anyone out there know?

Actually, the term is T-shirt, and it is so named because it is in the shape of a T.

I have always written it T-shirt and most often have been told it was wrong but I looked on my husbands new package of T-shirts that he recieved for the holidays and sure enough it is T-shirts and they are shaped like a T so that has to be the reason. Sometimes the ansers are just to simple. As my mother would say, just as plain as the nose on your face.
